Various factors affect the material choice of labels; shelf life, conditions of exposure and budget. If your stickers will be exposed to moisture and need to be waterproof, then vinyl is most suitable material to print on.
However, if your stickers are primarily for indoor use (or if price is the main consideration) then paper may better suit your needs, and is recyclable.
