Corrugated board is a strong, lightweight packaging material made from a fluted inner layer sandwiched between flat liner boards. It’s widely used for boxes, packaging inserts and protective transit solutions thanks to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio.

Understanding Corrugated Board Grades

You may see specifications such as:

190Y/180W and 180Y/150D

These codes describe the paper layers used to make the board:

  • 190 / 180 / 150 = the weight of the paper (gsm – grams per square metre)
  • Y = Kraft liner (brown, strong, recycled paper)
  • W = White liner (smooth white surface for high-quality print)
  • D = Test liner (brown/grey recycled paper, more economical)

In simple terms:

  • 190Y/180W → Strong brown inner layer with a white outer face (ideal for printed packaging)
  • 180Y/150D → Fully brown/recycled board (great for transit packaging where print quality is less critical)
